What should I consider when hiring someone?
Hiring the right person is as much about gut feeling as references. Here are concrete tips for choosing a provider, agreeing clearly, and using trust features where they are active.
Before you make contact
- Read the profile carefully. A provider who has taken the time to write a detailed profile is often more engaged in their work.
- Search for the name online. A quick name search can show previous work, reviews, or warnings.
- Look at past work. Some providers have a portfolio or photos. It's a good sign if they show what they've done.
At first contact
- Ask concrete questions. How long will it take? What does it cost? Have you done similar work before?
- Call or video chat. It's hard to fake a voice or a face. Short conversations help you judge if it feels right.
- Ask for references. A provider with previous satisfied customers shouldn't have a problem giving you someone to contact.
Before work begins
- Write down what you've agreed on. Price, scope, time, and payment method - text message or email is enough.
- Meet in a public place the first time. If the assignment is physical and at your home, start with a meeting outside to assess the person.
- Tell someone where you're going. If a stranger is coming to your home, it's smart that someone else knows about it.
At payment
- Use payment methods that give a receipt. Bank transfer, Swish with a message, or invoice are traceable.
- Be cautious with cash. No receipts, no history.
- Don't pay everything in advance. If someone demands the full amount before work begins, that's a warning sign.
After the assignment
- Keep communication and receipts for six months. If something comes up later, you'll have evidence.
- Tell us about your experiences. If something went very well or very badly, contact us via the contact page. It helps us make the platform safer.
Warning signs
- Pressures you to decide quickly
- Refuses to give references
- Only wants cash payment, no receipts
- Price that's unrealistically low
- The person doesn't want to meet or video chat
- Asks for personal identity number, bank account details, or other sensitive information before you've agreed on anything concrete
