Safety advice
Here is practical advice for staying safe when you contact, hire, or offer services. Use written agreements, keep messages, ask questions, and use platform trust features where they are active.
Before you make contact
- Read the profile carefully - complete profiles are often more reliable
- Search for the name online
- Look at past work if it's on the profile
- Be sceptical of prices that seem too good to be true
At contact
- Call or video chat before deciding details
- Ask for references
- Meet in a public place the first time if the assignment is physical
- Tell someone where you're going if a stranger is coming to you
Written agreement
Write down what you've agreed on - even a text message confirmation works. Include:
- What's to be done
- When it's to be done
- Price and what's included
- How payment will be made
- Any conditions (e.g. materials, access to tools)
Payment
- Use payment methods with receipts: bank transfer, Swish with a message, invoice
- Be cautious with cash
- Don't pay everything in advance - a partial payment at start and the rest at completion is common
- Ask for a receipt
Personal information
Don't share your personal identity number, bank account details, passwords, or other sensitive information until you've agreed on something concrete. A legitimate provider or customer doesn't ask for this before you're in agreement.
Warning signs
- Pressures you to decide quickly
- Refuses to give references
- Only wants cash payment
- Price that's unrealistically high or low
- Refuses to meet or video chat
- Demands full advance payment
- Asks for personal identity number or bank account details before you've agreed on anything
If something goes wrong
- Stop communicating with the person
- Keep all communication and receipts
- Report to police if it's a crime (fraud, threat, theft)
- Contact us via the contact page so we can suspend the user from the platform
